Nine fundamental rules for Surgical Instrument handling and its perfect maintenance:

1. Use the instruments correctly and not drop them.

2. Clean the instruments immediately after use.

3. Treat the instruments carefully to avoid that the tips or sharp edges don't deteriorate.

4. Open the instruments that have articulation for cleaning & sterilization. Always disassemble the instruments that allow disassembly. (Preferably use ultrasonic washing machine).

5. Rinse the instruments carefully after cleaning to eliminate the detergent completely.

6. Examine the operation of each instrument and separate all the faulty instruments for their repair.

7. Dry the instruments not needed in the next intervention well and place them in the warehouse.

8. Sterilize & dry off well the instruments that will be used in a next intervention.

9. Use the instruments properly & according to their operation.
